Capital Bank marks fifth successful year of Coats for the Children

Partnership with Salvation Army and WRAL-TV brings warmth to the Triangle

Raleigh, N.C. — Feb. 3, 2010 — For the fifth consecutive year, Capital Bank teamed with WRAL-TV and The Salvation Army of Wake County to collect coats and warm winter clothing for families in need this holiday season. During the 21st annual WRAL-TV Coats for the Children campaign, over 10,000 coats were collected across the Triangle and Fayetteville. This year´s day-long telethon on WRAL netted $10,000 more than last year and when online donations were added the total reached $76,800, an increase of over $6,000 from 2008.

“Each year, we are overwhelmed by the compassion of the people in this community,” said Paige Bagwell, director of operations and communications for The Salvation Army of Wake County. “Volunteers, donors and organizations like Capital Bank not only step up to help, but go above and beyond to assist us in providing basic needs like winter coats to those who are hurting in this area. For this, we are forever grateful.”

Gently used winter apparel and monetary donations were collected at Capital Bank´s Triangle and Fayetteville area branches from November to January. Since 1989, the annual campaign has collected more than 123,500 coats and raised well over $1 million to provide winter clothing for Salvation Army families.
