Capital Bank wins 2010 Business Support of the Arts Award

United Arts Council honors Capital Bank for contributions to the arts

Raleigh, N.C. — Feb. 2, 2010 — Capital Bank is the proud recipient of the 2010 Business Support of the Arts Award from the United Arts and the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. Capital Bank received the award in the large business category for outstanding contributions to the arts in the Triangle area.

Capital Bank supports the Raleigh arts community through sponsorship and advocacy. President and CEO B. Grant Yarber is active in the downtown Raleigh renaissance and has leading roles with organizations including North Carolina Theatre, North Carolina Symphony and the North Carolina Museum of History. The bank has also supported numerous players in the arts community including North Carolina Theatre, Artsplosure, Artspace, Carolina Ballet and Opera Company of North Carolina and purchases and displays works of local artists in all branches and in the lobby of the headquarters downtown.

“The arts community in Raleigh depends on corporate heroes like Capital Bank that take their community responsibilities to heart and not only invest, but also take an active role in the process,” said Lisa Grele Barrie, president and CEO of North Carolina Theatre, who nominated Capital Bank for the award. “We celebrate Grant Yarber´s commitment to the arts and offer him a resounding standing ovation for receiving this award!”

“Capital Bank sees reinvesting its assets back into the community as just that – an investment,” said Yarber. “We try to focus on efforts where we can make the biggest impact – food, shelter, health care, financial education, but in order to have a cultural identity, we´ve really focused on the performing and visual arts. We´re trying to bring people together in the neighborhood and create a better sense of community.”

The Business Support of the Arts Awards will be presented on February 17. The United Arts Council´s mission is to build better communities through support and advocacy of the arts. The mission of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce is to sustain and further develop a thriving economy and to enhance our community´s quality of life.
