Capital Bank continues support of Coats for the Children

21st annual campaign to collect winter coats for local children begins

Raleigh, N.C. — Nov. 19, 2009 — Responding to a community need, Capital Bank is supporting the Salvation Army of Wake County for the fifth consecutive year as a sponsor of the annual WRAL-TV Coats for the Children campaign. The campaign is an effort to collect warm coats and other outerwear for local children and families in need this winter.

Capital Bank will collect coats at all Triangle-area branches including Raleigh, Cary, Holly Springs, Clayton, Morrisville, Wake Forest, Oxford, Sanford, Siler City, Pittsboro and Zebulon; as well as the four Fayetteville-area bank locations. In addition to new or gently used coats, the public is encouraged to donate other winter clothing items, including gently used gloves and hats, new long underwear, t-shirts and socks to outfit a child for the winter months. Financial contributions are also accepted at any branch location.

“For years Capital Bank has supported this wonderful campaign for our organization,” said Paige Bagwell, director of operations and communications for The Salvation Army of Wake County. “This effort is a statement that our community cares and wants to make a difference.”

Since 1989, the campaign has collected more than 113,500 coats and raised over $1 million to provide winter clothing for Salvation Army families. On Friday, Dec.11, WRAL-TV will broadcast a day-long “Coats for the Children Telethon” with Capital Bank associates staffing the phone lines.

“We are asking everyone to share the warmth of giving this holiday season,” said B. Grant Yarber, president and CEO of Capital Bank. “This seemingly simple cause produces a measurable difference and together, we´ll make this season a warmer one for children in our community.”
