Capital Bank Plaza features new exhibit for First Friday

New exhibit – The Art of Math & Language – opens June 5

Raleigh, N.C. — June 3, 2009 — Capital Bank will take part in its inaugural First Friday event on June 5, showcasing a new art exhibit, called The Art of Math & Language, in the lobby of Capital Bank Plaza at 333 Fayetteville Street from 5 to 7 p.m. As one of North Carolina´s largest community banks, Capital Bank´s headquarters are based in downtown Raleigh.

First Friday is one of Raleigh´s most popular evening escapes featuring a gallery art walk, music and dining specials at local restaurants.

The art exhibit at Capital Bank Plaza will include paintings and prints by Wayne Taylor and Merrill Shatzman. Taylor is a well-known North Carolina State University professor emeritus who paints large vivid compositions based on design, geometry and architecture. Shatzman, director of Duke University´s printmaking department, creates her own distinct language with letters and symbols.

The community is invited and is encouraged to stop by Capital Bank Plaza to view the artwork on display. “We are long supporters of the arts whether the performing or visual arts,” said B. Grant Yarber, president and CEO of Capital Bank. “We are also proud that our building is one of the many historic structures on Fayetteville Street and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.”

The fifteen-story steel frame Capital Bank Plaza, completed in 1965, is a well-preserved example of the International Style as developed ca. 1950 by Mies van der Rohe.
